Artifact Support Clearance Margin Tool

Calculate artifact support clearance margin from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Return asymmetric object-support gaps and minimum supplied margin.

Conservation measurements separate nominal material composition, contact geometry, expansion and mechanical response. A volume fraction or clearance term evaluates supplied properties under a limited model; actual material compatibility, treatment effects and object stability require examination and specialist judgment.

Return asymmetric object-support gaps and minimum supplied margin.

When to use this tool

Use Artifact Support Clearance Margin when checking the stated conservation material, dimensional or mechanical term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter artifactWidth, supportWidth, requiredGapEachSide, centerOffset. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read leftGap, rightGap, minimumMargin. Use the output convention below.

Return asymmetric object-support gaps and minimum supplied margin. Require nonnegative widths/required gap; half = (support-artifact)/2, left/right add/subtract centerOffset, minimumMargin = min(gaps)-required.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Negative gaps or margins are retained; this does not verify mounting geometry, support strength or safe handling.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated measurements, representative material tests and qualified conservation/engineering assessment before actual treatment, mounting or handling.
