Wall Layer Vapor Resistance Term Tool

Compute supplied vapor diffusion resistance factor times layer thickness, without predicting condensation.

Loading tool…

Description

Return equivalent air-layer vapor-diffusion thickness.

Building quantity takeoffs depend on inclusion/exclusion rules, repeated modules, joint placement and material thickness. Net area and ideal layer resistance are limited model quantities; actual fit, heat/moisture behavior and construction performance require the full assembly and measured material properties.

Return equivalent air-layer vapor-diffusion thickness.

When to use this tool

Use Wall Layer Vapor Resistance Term when checking the stated material, layer, module or takeoff convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter thickness, diffusionResistanceFactor. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read equivalentAirThickness. Use the output convention below.

Return equivalent air-layer vapor-diffusion thickness. Require thickness/diffusionResistanceFactor >= 0; equivalentAirThickness = thickness*factor.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The factor is dimensionless and state-dependent input; no condensation analysis, vapor flow or acceptable wall design is established.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use complete drawings, specifications and suitable assembly/material analysis for actual procurement, hygrothermal performance or construction.
