Description
Return a reference plane's layer-stack offset.
Building quantity takeoffs depend on inclusion/exclusion rules, repeated modules, joint placement and material thickness. Net area and ideal layer resistance are limited model quantities; actual fit, heat/moisture behavior and construction performance require the full assembly and measured material properties.
Return a reference plane's layer-stack offset.
When to use this tool
Use Wall Layer Reference Plane Offset when checking the stated material, layer, module or takeoff convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter layerThicknesses, referenceLayer, offsetInsideLayer. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read offset. Use the output convention below.
Return a reference plane's layer-stack offset. Require nonempty nonnegative thicknesses, a valid whole referenceLayer and offsetInsideLayer within that thickness; sum preceding layers and add the internal offset.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| layerThicknesses | Layer Thicknesses | Required. Array of finite number; maximum items 256. |
| referenceLayer | Reference Layer | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| offsetInsideLayer | Offset Inside Layer | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| offset | Offset | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Indexes are zero-based and zero-thickness layers are accepted; actual construction, continuity and design suitability are not verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
