Description
Return net/gross as netToGross and gross/net as grossingFactor.
Architectural quantities depend on dimension references, area boundaries, slopes, and construction allowances. A component calculation can describe a proposed geometry without establishing code compliance, structural adequacy, or buildability.
Return net/gross as netToGross and gross/net as grossingFactor.
When to use this tool
Use Room Net Gross Area Ratio when you need one explicit architectural geometry component using a common measurement basis.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter netArea, grossArea. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read netToGross, grossingFactor. Use the output convention below.
Require 0 < netArea ≤ grossArea. Return net/gross as netToGross and gross/net as grossingFactor.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| netArea | Net Area | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| grossArea | Gross Area | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| netToGross | Net To Gross | Required. Finite number. |
| grossingFactor | Grossing Factor | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Area definitions must be consistent; these reciprocal ratios do not select measurement standards, allowable density, or an efficient building design.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
