Lintel Bearing Seat Length

Calculate equal end-seat lengths from explicit centered lintel and opening widths, preserving a shortfall without structural assessment.

Description

Calculate nominal equal lintel seats from supplied lengths.

Architectural scalar geometry depends on datums, finish build-ups, endpoint conventions and supplied corrections. A nominal lintel seat differs from verified bearing capacity, and internal masonry joints differ from a module repeated with extra end joints. Negative clearances can reveal discrepancies without assessing structural or legal suitability.

Calculate nominal equal lintel seats from supplied lengths.

When to use this tool

Use Lintel Bearing Seat Length when you already have lintelLength, clearOpeningWidth and need to calculate nominal equal lintel seats from supplied lengths.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter lintelLength, clearOpeningWidth. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read equalSeatLength. Use the output convention below.

Require lintelLength and clearOpeningWidth>=0; return (lintel-opening)/2.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input

clearOpeningWidthClear Opening WidthRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
equalSeatLength(lintelLength-clearOpeningWidth)/2 under equal centering; negative values retained.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Negative seats are retained. Equal centering is assumed; actual bearing, load paths, material capacity, required support and safe installation are not assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use controlled drawings, site measurements and complete engineering and code assessment. Check geometry, tolerances, loads and applicable requirements before interpreting local dimensions as a valid or safe design.
