Description
Subtract supplied opening area from a rectangular masonry panel area.
Architectural scalar geometry depends on datums, finish build-ups, endpoint conventions and supplied corrections. A nominal lintel seat differs from verified bearing capacity, and internal masonry joints differ from a module repeated with extra end joints. Negative clearances can reveal discrepancies without assessing structural or legal suitability.
Subtract supplied opening area from a rectangular masonry panel area.
When to use this tool
Use Wall Opening Net Masonry Panel Area when you already have panelWidth, panelHeight, suppliedOpeningArea and need to subtract supplied opening area from a rectangular masonry panel area.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter panelWidth, panelHeight, suppliedOpeningArea. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read grossArea, netArea. Use the output convention below.
Require dimensions and opening area>=0 with opening<=width*height; return gross width*height and gross-opening.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| panelWidth | Panel Width | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| panelHeight | Panel Height | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| suppliedOpeningArea | Nonnegative aggregate opening area in squared panel-length units; overlaps must already be handled. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| grossArea | Gross Area | Required. Finite number. |
| netArea | Net Area | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use matching area/length units and avoid double-counting overlapping openings. No load capacity, actual opening geometry, material quantity allowance or code compliance is determined.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use controlled drawings, site measurements and complete engineering and code assessment. Check geometry, tolerances, loads and applicable requirements before interpreting local dimensions as a valid or safe design.
