Door Undercut Finish Floor Gap

Subtract an explicit finished-floor elevation from a door-bottom elevation on the same datum without setting clearances.

Description

Calculate a supplied finished-floor elevation and door undercut gap.

Architectural scalar geometry depends on datums, finish build-ups, endpoint conventions and supplied corrections. A nominal lintel seat differs from verified bearing capacity, and internal masonry joints differ from a module repeated with extra end joints. Negative clearances can reveal discrepancies without assessing structural or legal suitability.

Calculate a supplied finished-floor elevation and door undercut gap.

When to use this tool

Use Door Undercut Finish Floor Gap when you already have doorBottomElevation, substrateElevation, floorFinishThickness and need to calculate a supplied finished-floor elevation and door undercut gap.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter doorBottomElevation, substrateElevation, floorFinishThickness. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read finishedFloorElevation, undercutGap. Use the output convention below.

Require floorFinishThickness>=0; finished=substrate+finish and gap=doorBottom-substrate-finish.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • A negative gap is retained. Use a shared elevation datum; no fire-door requirement, accessibility, ventilation or safe/approved clearance is selected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use controlled drawings, site measurements and complete engineering and code assessment. Check geometry, tolerances, loads and applicable requirements before interpreting local dimensions as a valid or safe design.
