Aquatic Sample Depth Pressure Reference Tool

Constant-density hydrostatic approximation in SI units.

Loading tool…

Description

Return gauge and reference-adjusted water pressure.

Aquatic gradients, light attenuation, pressure and acoustic range depend on depth signs and supplied physical coefficients. A local gradient or ideal propagation term does not identify a thermocline, prove whole-lake turnover or detect an organism. Empirical optical products and sound speeds require context-specific measurement.

Return gauge and reference-adjusted water pressure.

When to use this tool

Use Aquatic Sample Depth Pressure Reference when checking the stated local aquatic gradient, attenuation, pressure or range convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter depth, density, gravity, referencePressure. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read gaugePressure, absolutePressure. Use the output convention below.

Return gauge and reference-adjusted water pressure. Require nonnegative depth/referencePressure and positive density/gravity; gauge = depth*density*gravity, absolute = reference+gauge.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Use compatible units and a physically appropriate absolute reference; variable density, actual depth and instrument calibration are not inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated profiles, appropriate optical/acoustic conditions and a complete suitable physical model for field interpretation or safe operations.
