UV Dose Calculator Aquaculture

Integrate sampled trajectory UV irradiance attenuated by caller transmittance per reference path length; mW·s/cm² yields mJ/cm², not reactor validated reduction-equivalent dose or pathogen kill.

Description

UV fluence accumulates irradiance over time along a water trajectory.

UV fluence accumulates irradiance over time along a water trajectory. Transmission and relative optical path alter local exposure, so lamp power alone is not the delivered dose.1

Integrate sampled trajectory UV irradiance attenuated by caller transmittance per reference path length; mW·s/cm² yields mJ/cm², not reactor validated reduction-equivalent dose or pathogen kill.

When to use UV Dose Calculator Aquaculture

Use this tool to integrate sampled trajectory UV irradiance attenuated by caller transmittance per reference path length; mW·s/cm² yields mJ/cm², not reactor validated reduction-equivalent dose or pathogen kill.

Prepare the cohort, water, feed or equipment measurements for one consistent operating period. Confirm nitrogen reporting bases, dry/wet masses, flow units and supplied design assumptions.

How to use UV Dose Calculator Aquaculture and understand its results

  1. Prepare the cohort, water, feed or equipment measurements for one consistent operating period. Confirm nitrogen reporting bases, dry/wet masses, flow units and supplied design assumptions.
  2. Enter residenceTimesSeconds, incidentIrradiancesMwPerCm2, waterTransmittanceFraction, relativePathLengths using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read localIrradiancesMwPerCm2, integratedFluenceMjPerCm2. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

Provide at least two strictly increasing nonnegative time coordinates in seconds, aligned nonnegative irradiance and path lists, and transmission greater than zero through one. These times are sample coordinates rather than independent residence durations. The tool attenuates each irradiance and trapezoidally integrates between samples. The returned fluence is mJ/cm² despite the output key's capitalized Mj.

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.

localI=incidentI × transmission^relativePath; fluence=ΣΔt(localI_previous+localI_next)/2

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

This is one sampled trajectory, not a validated reactor dose distribution or pathogen inactivation model. Water optics, mixing, fouling and lamp aging must be represented by caller measurements.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Ozone Dose: Balance applied ozone, gas transfer and supplied instantaneous water demand; ideal residual excludes decay/contact kinetics and is not a fish-safe operating dose. For a complementary task, use Transportation Density: Screen finite-trip biomass against stored/supplied oxygen and a caller density cap; no fish welfare guarantee, CO2/ammonia control or live-transport recommendation.
