Fish Sample Subsampling Factor

Divide a supplied whole-sample count by its positive subsample count for a count-based expansion factor.

Description

Calculate supplied whole-sample/subsample count expansion.

Aquaculture records distinguish gross harvest, tare, retained water, sample expansion, feed withdrawal and recorded live counts. Delivered feed differs from ingestion, and nominal mesh geometry differs from behavior under load. Local mass, depth and energy terms do not establish animal welfare, water quality or suitable stocking.

Calculate supplied whole-sample/subsample count expansion.

When to use this tool

Use Fish Sample Subsampling Factor when you already have wholeSampleCount, subsampleCount and need to calculate supplied whole-sample/subsample count expansion.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter wholeSampleCount, subsampleCount. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read expansionFactor. Use the output convention below.

Require positive safe whole counts and subsample<=whole; return whole/subsample.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This count ratio does not verify random sampling, representativeness, recovery or an unbiased estimate of unobserved fish.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review original weighing, sample, feed, water and equipment records. Use the complete veterinary, biological and engineering assessment for real operation; local record checks do not determine appropriate management or safe handling.
