Description
Label a supplied fish-length value, unit and measurement type.
Aquaculture records distinguish gross harvest, tare, retained water, sample expansion, feed withdrawal and recorded live counts. Delivered feed differs from ingestion, and nominal mesh geometry differs from behavior under load. Local mass, depth and energy terms do not establish animal welfare, water quality or suitable stocking.
Label a supplied fish-length value, unit and measurement type.
When to use this tool
Use Fish Length Unit Label when you already have length, unit, measurementType and need to label a supplied fish-length value, unit and measurement type.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter length, unit, measurementType. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read label. Use the output convention below.
Require length>=0, unit mm/cm/m and type total/fork/standard; display them unchanged.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| length | Length | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| unit | Unit | Required. Text; one of "mm", "cm", "m"; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| measurementType | Literal total/fork/standard length label; no conversion between anatomical length definitions. | Required. Text; one of "total", "fork", "standard"; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| label | Label | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- No unit or length-type conversion is performed. Anatomy, species, actual measurement, handling and a suitable protocol are not assessed.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review original weighing, sample, feed, water and equipment records. Use the complete veterinary, biological and engineering assessment for real operation; local record checks do not determine appropriate management or safe handling.
