Aquaculture Tank Drain Residual Volume Tool

Vertical-wall tank with constant horizontal floor area.

Loading tool…

Description

Return rectangular-tank initial, retained and drained volumes.

Tank geometry, exchange and equipment budgets use explicit volume, flow, mixing and efficiency assumptions. Ideal complete mixing differs from replacing distinct water portions, and energy usage differs from power. Nominal calculations do not establish actual oxygenation, animal welfare or safe installation.

Return rectangular-tank initial, retained and drained volumes.

When to use this tool

Use Aquaculture Tank Drain Residual Volume when checking the stated aquaculture geometry, exchange or equipment term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter floorArea, initialDepth, residualDepth. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read initialVolume, retainedVolume, drainedVolume. Use the output convention below.

Return rectangular-tank initial, retained and drained volumes. Require floorArea/residualDepth >= 0 and initialDepth >= residual; multiply floor area by each depth and their difference.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes vertical sides and uniform floor; actual drainage, residue, animal condition and safe handling are not assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Verify actual tank geometry, mixing and equipment performance, and obtain qualified aquaculture/engineering advice for operation and safety.
