Queen Laying Rate Eggs Per Day

Infer interval laying from cumulative observed eggs plus independently supplied egg-loss corrections; migration, unobserved brood and colony-wide representativeness are external.

Description

Egg observations over unequal intervals need a time-based rate.

Egg observations over unequal intervals need a time-based rate. Adding independently estimated losses can reconcile changes in observed counts with modeled production.1

Infer interval laying from cumulative observed eggs plus independently supplied egg-loss corrections; migration, unobserved brood and colony-wide representativeness are external.

When to use Queen Laying Rate Eggs Per Day

Use this tool to infer interval laying from cumulative observed eggs plus independently supplied egg-loss corrections; migration, unobserved brood and colony-wide representativeness are external.

Prepare the hive, sample or operating measurements and any supplied target values. Confirm units, timing and whether counts or masses refer to the same population or batch.

How to use Queen Laying Rate Eggs Per Day and understand its results

  1. Prepare the hive, sample or operating measurements and any supplied target values. Confirm units, timing and whether counts or masses refer to the same population or batch.
  2. Enter timesDays, cumulativeObservedEggCounts, estimatedEggLossesPerInterval using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read intervalLayingRatesEggsPerDay, overallLayingRateEggsPerDay. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

estimatedEggLossesPerIntervalEstimated egg losses per intervallist of numberRequired

Supply at least two increasing finite day coordinates, aligned nonnegative integer cumulative observed egg counts and one nonnegative integer loss estimate per interval. Corrected production must be nonnegative; raw observed counts may decrease if losses reconcile them. Return interval eggs/day and total corrected production divided by full observed duration.

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths. Each sequence checked for increasing order must contain at least two strictly increasing values.

produced_i = count_(i+1)−count_i+loss_i; rate_i = produced_i/Δdays_i

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Loss corrections and observation coverage are supplied. Unobserved brood, migration and colony-wide representativeness are not established, and rates do not directly forecast adult population.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Population Growth From Laying Rate Estimator: Project delayed brood cohorts into expected adult population with caller development lag and conditional survival; no embedded worker-development duration, swarming or migration model. For a complementary task, use Sealed Brood Area Population Estimate: Estimate sealed cells and expected viable emergence from disjoint measured brood areas and caller cell-density/viability calibration; not a fixed frame population lookup.
