Hive Weight Alert Delta Monitoring
Monitor interval hive-weight changes after supplied external loading/removal corrections against caller strict delta threshold; not automatic swarm, forage or theft identification.
Description
Hive-weight changes can include deliberate loading and removal as well as colony-related processes.
Hive-weight changes can include deliberate loading and removal as well as colony-related processes. Subtracting observed external changes makes the monitored residual explicit.1
Monitor interval hive-weight changes after supplied external loading/removal corrections against caller strict delta threshold; not automatic swarm, forage or theft identification.
When to use Hive Weight Alert Delta Monitoring
Use this tool to monitor interval hive-weight changes after supplied external loading/removal corrections against caller strict delta threshold; not automatic swarm, forage or theft identification.
Prepare the hive, sample or operating measurements and any supplied target values. Confirm units, timing and whether counts or masses refer to the same population or batch.
How to use Hive Weight Alert Delta Monitoring and understand its results
- Prepare the hive, sample or operating measurements and any supplied target values. Confirm units, timing and whether counts or masses refer to the same population or batch.
- Enter timesDays, hiveWeightsKg, intervalNetExternalMassChangesKg, absoluteAlertDeltaKg using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read correctedIntervalDeltasKg, correctedRatesKgPerDay, alertIntervalFlags. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| timesDays | Times days | list of number | Required |
| hiveWeightsKg | Hive weights kg | list of number | Required |
| intervalNetExternalMassChangesKg | Interval net external mass changes kg | list of number | Required |
| absoluteAlertDeltaKg | Absolute alert delta kg | number | Required |
Pair at least two increasing day coordinates with nonnegative weights in kg and one signed external-change value per interval. Supply a nonnegative absolute alert threshold. Return corrected deltas, kg/day rates and flags where absolute delta strictly exceeds the threshold. Alerts compare interval mass change, not rate.
Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths. Each sequence checked for increasing order must contain at least two strictly increasing values.
correctedDelta_i = weight_(i+1)−weight_i−externalChange_i; rate_i = delta_i/Δdays Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| correctedIntervalDeltasKg | Corrected interval deltas kg | list of number |
| correctedRatesKgPerDay | Corrected rates kg per day | list of number |
| alertIntervalFlags | Alert interval flags | list of number |

} Limitations and assumptions
External corrections and measurement coverage are caller observations. A flagged change does not identify swarming, forage, theft or consumption, and unequal intervals can produce different rates for the same delta.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Stores Depletion Rate Per Week: Fit net store trend after explicit cumulative feed additions; assumes store mass has already been corrected for hive/brood tare and does not attribute all loss to consumption. For a complementary task, use Post Treatment Mite Drop Check Tool: Compare exposure-normalized mite-drop observations before/after an intervention with supplied background; this is a monitoring contrast, not causal treatment efficacy or evidence of colony mite clearance.
