Wool Staple Length Shrink Factor Tool

Calculate wool staple length shrink factor from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return wool extension fraction and processed-length estimate.

Animal-production budgets depend on measured quantities, population exposure and wet/dry or yield conventions. A per-animal quantity or material balance can reconcile records without establishing an appropriate housing, water or production target. Biological variation and welfare require independent assessment.

Return wool extension fraction and processed-length estimate.

When to use this tool

Use Wool Staple Length Shrink Factor when checking the stated animal-record quantity, allocation or material basis.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter relaxedLength, extendedLength, processingRetention. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read extensionFraction, processedLength. Use the output convention below.

Return wool extension fraction and processed-length estimate. Require relaxedLength > 0, extendedLength >= relaxed and processingRetention in [0,1]; extension = (extended-relaxed)/relaxed, processedLength = extended*retention.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input

extendedLengthExtended LengthRequired. Finite number.
processingRetentionProcessing RetentionRequired. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 1.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The processed basis is extended length; actual fiber properties, product quality and animal condition are not inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified representative records and qualified husbandry/veterinary assessment for actual animal welfare, facilities or production decisions.
