Description
Return pasture-intake estimate from mass disappearance.
Animal feed, milk and scaling terms require explicit dry-matter, energy, component and body-size bases. Empirical coefficients and caller-supplied prices are not universal biological laws. An intake or cost estimate does not select a diet, predict health or establish an appropriate intervention.
Return pasture-intake estimate from mass disappearance.
When to use this tool
Use Pasture Intake Pre Post Mass Gap when checking the stated intake, composition, cost or allometric convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter beforeMass, afterMass, regrowth, nonIntakeLoss, animals. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read estimatedIntake, intakePerAnimal. Use the output convention below.
Return pasture-intake estimate from mass disappearance. Require nonnegative masses/regrowth/nonIntakeLoss and positive whole animals; estimatedIntake = before-after+regrowth-nonIntakeLoss, divide by animals.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| beforeMass | Before Mass | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| afterMass | After Mass | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| regrowth | Regrowth | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| nonIntakeLoss | Non Intake Loss | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| animals | Animals | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| estimatedIntake | Estimated Intake | Required. Finite number. |
| intakePerAnimal | Intake Per Animal | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Negative intake is retained; regrowth/losses and representative pasture measurements are supplied, not a recommended feed allowance.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use verified animal/feed measurements, the intended validated model and qualified veterinary/nutrition advice for care or feeding decisions.
