Seedbed Clod Sphericity Reference Term Tool

Wadell surface sphericity: area of the equal-volume sphere divided by measured clod surface, in consistent units.

Loading tool…

Description

Return equivalent-sphere surface area and clod sphericity.

Soil bench and profile terms depend on geometry, reference origins, heat-capacity bases and sign conventions. A pressure, stress or strain is a limited measured/model quantity rather than a complete soil-strength, heat-transport or field-state assessment. Reference lines and physical coefficients are supplied rather than inferred.

Return equivalent-sphere surface area and clod sphericity.

When to use this tool

Use Seedbed Clod Sphericity Reference Term when checking the stated soil geometry, thermal, mechanical or measurement convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter volume, measuredSurface. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read equivalentSphereArea, sphericity. Use the output convention below.

Return equivalent-sphere surface area and clod sphericity. Require volume/measuredSurface > 0 and surface >= same-volume sphere area; equivalentArea = (36*pi)^(1/3)*volume^(2/3), sphericity = equivalent/measured.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes compatible 3D area/volume and measured external surface; no segmentation, pore correction or soil-condition diagnosis is supplied.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated measurements and an appropriate complete soil/engineering model for material properties, field behavior or safe practical loading.
