Seedbed Roughness Reference Plane Offset

Subtract an explicit reference-plane height from a measured seedbed height without estimating a roughness statistic.

Loading tool…

Description

Compare supplied seedbed height with a reference plane.

Soil and traction calculations depend on dry-mass versus wet-mass moisture bases, density units, layer thickness and distance conventions. Volumetric water fraction requires dry bulk density, while a single height residual differs from a roughness statistic. Supplied scalar relations do not establish physical plausibility or soil condition.

Compare supplied seedbed height with a reference plane.

When to use this tool

Use Seedbed Roughness Reference Plane Offset when you already have referencePlaneHeight, measuredHeight and need to compare supplied seedbed height with a reference plane.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter referencePlaneHeight, measuredHeight. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read signedGap. Use the output convention below.

Return measuredHeight-referencePlaneHeight with signs preserved.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
referencePlaneHeightReference Plane HeightRequired. Finite number.
measuredHeightMeasured HeightRequired. Finite number.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
signedGapSigned GapRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Use a common vertical axis and length unit. A single residual is not a roughness statistic, seedbed assessment or suitable cultivation condition.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use complete calibrated measurements, sampling design and physical models. Review density, moisture, heat and traction assumptions before interpreting local fractions or residuals as field performance or appropriate management.
