Description
Return wetMass*dryFraction and wetMass*(1-dryFraction) on the same mass basis.
Tree and crop material budgets distinguish wet mass, dry biomass, nutrient mass and carbon mass. A belowground-to-aboveground ratio differs from a total biomass multiplier, while returned nutrient differs from plant-available nutrient. Material accounting requires an explicit mass and reporting-area basis.
Return wetMass*dryFraction and wetMass*(1-dryFraction) on the same mass basis.
When to use this tool
Use Woody Residue Moisture Factor when checking the stated woody material, litter, nutrient or carbon basis.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter wetMass, dryFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read dryMass, waterMass. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative wet mass and dryFraction in [0,1]. Return wetMass*dryFraction and wetMass*(1-dryFraction) on the same mass basis.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |

| wetMass | Wet Mass | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| dryFraction | Dry Fraction | Required. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 1. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| dryMass | Dry Mass | Required. Finite number. |
| waterMass | Water Mass | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Dry fraction is dry/wet mass, not moisture fraction; this is material bookkeeping rather than a drying prediction.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use verified biomass and composition measurements and a complete suitable nutrient/carbon model for stocks, sequestration or agronomic management decisions.
