Tree Crop Row Shading Width Term Tool

Ideal supplied canopy-width plus vertical shadow projection.

Loading tool…

Description

Return canopyWidth+max(0,treeHeight-cropHeight)/tan(altitude).

Agroforestry geometry separates row widths, root-zone intervals, canopy projections and repeated-strip area bases. Optical shade, optical porosity and a clear machinery corridor are different quantities. Ideal dimensions and supplied overlaps can support bookkeeping without establishing light conditions, aerodynamic shelter or safe access.

Return canopyWidth+max(0,treeHeight-cropHeight)/tan(altitude).

When to use this tool

Use Tree Crop Row Shading Width Term when checking the stated ideal tree-row, shade, buffer or area convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter canopyWidth, treeHeight, cropHeight, solarAltitude. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read projectedWidth. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative canopy width and solar altitude strictly between 0 and π/2 radians. Return canopyWidth+max(0,treeHeight-cropHeight)/tan(altitude).1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is an aligned ideal shadow-width term; sun azimuth, crown transmission and changing illumination are omitted.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use measured terrain and canopy geometry, appropriate light/flow models and qualified agricultural/engineering assessment for actual layouts and operations.
