Shelterbelt Porosity One Opening Weight Tool

Calculate shelterbelt porosity one opening weight from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return sum(area*transparency) and divide by totalArea.

Agroforestry geometry separates row widths, root-zone intervals, canopy projections and repeated-strip area bases. Optical shade, optical porosity and a clear machinery corridor are different quantities. Ideal dimensions and supplied overlaps can support bookkeeping without establishing light conditions, aerodynamic shelter or safe access.

Return sum(area*transparency) and divide by totalArea.

When to use this tool

Use Shelterbelt Porosity One Opening Weight when checking the stated ideal tree-row, shade, buffer or area convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter openingAreas, transparency, totalArea. Follow any array-alignment requirements below. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read weightedOpenArea, weightedPorosity. Use the output convention below.

Require aligned nonnegative opening areas and transparency fractions in [0,1], whose unweighted areas sum to no more than totalArea>0. Return sum(area*transparency) and divide by totalArea.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Assumes the supplied openings are appropriately partitioned; optical porosity does not establish aerodynamic shelter performance.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use measured terrain and canopy geometry, appropriate light/flow models and qualified agricultural/engineering assessment for actual layouts and operations.
