Shelterbelt Optical Porosity Gap Fraction Tool

Calculate shelterbelt optical porosity gap fraction from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Return gap/(gap+opaque); report excluded/(gap+opaque+excluded) separately.

Agroforestry geometry separates row widths, root-zone intervals, canopy projections and repeated-strip area bases. Optical shade, optical porosity and a clear machinery corridor are different quantities. Ideal dimensions and supplied overlaps can support bookkeeping without establishing light conditions, aerodynamic shelter or safe access.

Return gap/(gap+opaque); report excluded/(gap+opaque+excluded) separately.

When to use this tool

Use Shelterbelt Optical Porosity Gap Fraction when checking the stated ideal tree-row, shade, buffer or area convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter gapPixels, opaquePixels, excludedPixels. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read eligible, gapFraction, excludedShare. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative whole gap, opaque and excluded pixel counts with gap+opaque>0. Return gap/(gap+opaque); report excluded/(gap+opaque+excluded) separately.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Pixels are supplied counts; no image segmentation or aerodynamic porosity measurement is performed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use measured terrain and canopy geometry, appropriate light/flow models and qualified agricultural/engineering assessment for actual layouts and operations.
