Intercrop Harvest Area Basis

Report a supplied intercrop harvest on whole-plot and explicitly allocated crop-area bases.

Description

Compare supplied intercrop harvest yields on whole-plot and allocated-area bases.

Agroecological metrics depend on sampling units, nonoverlapping coverage categories, mass bases and area denominators. Yield per whole plot differs from yield per allocated crop area, and literal crop-code richness per area is not rarefied diversity. Local count expansion assumes comparable density beyond the sampled segment.

Compare supplied intercrop harvest yields on whole-plot and allocated-area bases.

When to use this tool

Use Intercrop Harvest Area Basis when you already have harvestMass, plotArea, cropAllocatedArea and need to compare supplied intercrop harvest yields on whole-plot and allocated-area bases.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter harvestMass, plotArea, cropAllocatedArea. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read massPerWholePlotArea, massPerAllocatedArea. Use the output convention below.

Require harvestMass>=0, plotArea>0 and allocated area in (0,plot]; return mass/plot area and mass/allocated area.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
harvestMassHarvest MassRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
plotAreaPlot AreaRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
cropAllocatedAreaCrop Allocated AreaRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
massPerWholePlotAreaHarvest mass/entire plot area.Required. Finite number.
massPerAllocatedAreaSame harvest mass/crop-allocated area; a different denominator rather than a land-equivalent ratio.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The denominators answer different questions. This does not assign land shares, calculate land-equivalent ratio, adjust quality or establish production advantage.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the complete survey, experiment and ecological analysis. Check detection, spatial variation, sampling representativeness and resource boundaries before interpreting local fractions or supplied labels as ecological benefits or suitable practices.
