Crop Diversity Richness Denominator

Count distinct explicitly coded crop types and report richness per supplied sampled area without estimating a diversity index.

Description

Count supplied distinct crop codes and divide by sampled area.

Agroecological metrics depend on sampling units, nonoverlapping coverage categories, mass bases and area denominators. Yield per whole plot differs from yield per allocated crop area, and literal crop-code richness per area is not rarefied diversity. Local count expansion assumes comparable density beyond the sampled segment.

Count supplied distinct crop codes and divide by sampled area.

When to use this tool

Use Crop Diversity Richness Denominator when you already have cropCodes, sampledArea and need to count supplied distinct crop codes and divide by sampled area.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter cropCodes, sampledArea. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read richness, richnessPerArea. Use the output convention below.

Require sampledArea>0 and every code nonempty; richness is literal unique-code count, and richnessPerArea=richness/area.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
cropCodesCrop CodesRequired. Array of text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192; maximum items 256.
sampledAreaSampled AreaRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
richnessLiteral distinct nonempty crop-code count; an empty list gives zero.Required. Safe integer.
richnessPerAreaRichness Per AreaRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • An empty list gives zero. Code richness/area is not a rarefied diversity measure, species resolution, spatially invariant density or verified ecological outcome.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the complete survey, experiment and ecological analysis. Check detection, spatial variation, sampling representativeness and resource boundaries before interpreting local fractions or supplied labels as ecological benefits or suitable practices.
