Description
Calculate supplied field-margin length per hectare.
Agroecological metrics depend on sampling units, nonoverlapping coverage categories, mass bases and area denominators. Yield per whole plot differs from yield per allocated crop area, and literal crop-code richness per area is not rarefied diversity. Local count expansion assumes comparable density beyond the sampled segment.
Calculate supplied field-margin length per hectare.
When to use this tool
Use Field Margin Length Area Ratio when you already have marginLengthMeters, fieldAreaHectares and need to calculate supplied field-margin length per hectare.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter marginLengthMeters, fieldAreaHectares. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read metersPerHectare. Use the output convention below.
Require marginLengthMeters>=0 and fieldAreaHectares>0; divide for m/ha.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| marginLengthMeters | Margin Length Meters | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| fieldAreaHectares | Field Area Hectares | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| metersPerHectare | Margin length/field area in m/ha; not a dimensionless proportion. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This is length per area rather than a dimensionless fraction. No margin geometry, habitat quality, biodiversity benefit or suitable target is inferred.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the complete survey, experiment and ecological analysis. Check detection, spatial variation, sampling representativeness and resource boundaries before interpreting local fractions or supplied labels as ecological benefits or suitable practices.
