Description
Calculate supplied edge length not covered by recorded sampling.
Agroecological metrics depend on sampling units, nonoverlapping coverage categories, mass bases and area denominators. Yield per whole plot differs from yield per allocated crop area, and literal crop-code richness per area is not rarefied diversity. Local count expansion assumes comparable density beyond the sampled segment.
Calculate supplied edge length not covered by recorded sampling.
When to use this tool
Use Habitat Edge Unsampled Length when you already have edgeLength, sampledLength and need to calculate supplied edge length not covered by recorded sampling.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter edgeLength, sampledLength. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read unsampledLength. Use the output convention below.
Require both lengths>=0; return edgeLength-sampledLength.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| edgeLength | Edge Length | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| sampledLength | Sampled Length | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| unsampledLength | Unsampled Length | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Negative discrepancies are retained if sampled exceeds edge. No actual habitat boundary, sampling overlap, coverage quality or ecological condition is assessed.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the complete survey, experiment and ecological analysis. Check detection, spatial variation, sampling representativeness and resource boundaries before interpreting local fractions or supplied labels as ecological benefits or suitable practices.
