Crop Residue Returned Mass Share

Split a recorded residue dry-mass total into returned and removed portions without recommending a residue treatment.

Description

Calculate supplied residue dry-mass return fraction.

Agroecological metrics depend on sampling units, nonoverlapping coverage categories, mass bases and area denominators. Yield per whole plot differs from yield per allocated crop area, and literal crop-code richness per area is not rarefied diversity. Local count expansion assumes comparable density beyond the sampled segment.

Calculate supplied residue dry-mass return fraction.

When to use this tool

Use Crop Residue Returned Mass Share when you already have totalResidueDryMass, returnedDryMass and need to calculate supplied residue dry-mass return fraction.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter totalResidueDryMass, returnedDryMass. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read returnedFraction, removedDryMass. Use the output convention below.

Require totalResidueDryMass>0 and returned within [0,total]; return returned/total and total-returned.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
totalResidueDryMassTotal Residue Dry MassRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
returnedDryMassReturned Dry MassRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
returnedFractionReturned FractionRequired. Finite number.
removedDryMassRemoved Dry MassRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • All masses need the same dry basis. No residue, nutrient availability, soil response, removal effect or suitable practice is assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the complete survey, experiment and ecological analysis. Check detection, spatial variation, sampling representativeness and resource boundaries before interpreting local fractions or supplied labels as ecological benefits or suitable practices.
