Description
Calculate supplied season-index separation and intervening seasons.
Agroecological metrics depend on sampling units, nonoverlapping coverage categories, mass bases and area denominators. Yield per whole plot differs from yield per allocated crop area, and literal crop-code richness per area is not rarefied diversity. Local count expansion assumes comparable density beyond the sampled segment.
Calculate supplied season-index separation and intervening seasons.
When to use this tool
Use Crop Rotation Family Repeat Gap when you already have previousSeasonIndex, currentSeasonIndex and need to calculate supplied season-index separation and intervening seasons.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter previousSeasonIndex, currentSeasonIndex. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read seasonDifference, interveningSeasons. Use the output convention below.
Require safe whole current>=previous>=0; difference=current-previous, intervening=max(0,difference-1).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| previousSeasonIndex | Previous Season Index | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| currentSeasonIndex | Current Season Index | Required. Safe integer. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| seasonDifference | Season Difference | Required. Safe integer. |
| interveningSeasons | max(0,currentSeasonIndex-previousSeasonIndex-1), excluding both observed season indices. | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Same or adjacent seasons have zero intervening seasons. No crop family is looked up, actual rotation verified or agronomic disease/soil benefit inferred.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the complete survey, experiment and ecological analysis. Check detection, spatial variation, sampling representativeness and resource boundaries before interpreting local fractions or supplied labels as ecological benefits or suitable practices.
