Continuing Education Contact Hour Rounding Tool

Explicit credit duration and whole-credit rounding, with nearest ties upward.

Loading tool…

Description

Raw credit=minutes/minutesPerCredit; apply the selected integer rounding, with nearest half ties upward for nonnegative values.

Education credit bookkeeping depends on conversion factors, overlap, prior recognition, caps and prerequisite assertions. Contact hours and recognized credits are different quantities; a numerical equivalence or waiver flag does not establish accreditation or authority to award a qualification.

Raw credit=minutes/minutesPerCredit; apply the selected integer rounding, with nearest half ties upward for nonnegative values.

When to use this tool

Use Continuing Education Contact Hour Rounding when checking the stated credit, overlap, rounding or prerequisite convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter minutes, minutesPerCredit, rounding. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read rawCredit, credit. Use the output convention below.

Require minutes>=0, minutesPerCredit>0 and rounding floor, ceil or nearest. Raw credit=minutes/minutesPerCredit; apply the selected integer rounding, with nearest half ties upward for nonnegative values.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The rounding policy is supplied and applies to the whole input total; no continuing-education standard is selected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Consult the institution’s current recognition and qualification rules and verified completion/evidence records for actual credit decisions.
