Credit Hour Equivalence Factor Tool

Calculate credit hour equivalence factor from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return sourceCredits*hoursPerSourceCredit/hoursPerTargetCredit.

Education credit bookkeeping depends on conversion factors, overlap, prior recognition, caps and prerequisite assertions. Contact hours and recognized credits are different quantities; a numerical equivalence or waiver flag does not establish accreditation or authority to award a qualification.

Return sourceCredits*hoursPerSourceCredit/hoursPerTargetCredit.

When to use this tool

Use Credit Hour Equivalence Factor when checking the stated credit, overlap, rounding or prerequisite convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sourceCredits, hoursPerSourceCredit, hoursPerTargetCredit. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read targetCredits. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative source credits and positive hours per source/target credit. Return sourceCredits*hoursPerSourceCredit/hoursPerTargetCredit.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Both hours-per-credit definitions are supplied; the result does not establish institutional recognition or qualification equivalence.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Consult the institution’s current recognition and qualification rules and verified completion/evidence records for actual credit decisions.
