Scion Stick Bud Count Tool

Screen usable scion bud positions under caller internode/endpoint geometry and independently measured viability; expected viable count is fractional, not observed buds or graft-grade assurance.

Description

A usable scion stick contains discrete bud positions between end exclusions.

A usable scion stick contains discrete bud positions between end exclusions. Viability turns that geometric inventory into an expected count.

Screen usable scion bud positions under caller internode/endpoint geometry and independently measured viability; expected viable count is fractional, not observed buds or graft-grade assurance.

When to use Scion Stick Bud Count Tool

Use this tool to screen usable scion bud positions under caller internode/endpoint geometry and independently measured viability; expected viable count is fractional, not observed buds or graft-grade assurance.

Prepare vineyard measurements, dates or block records for the intended growing period. Keep weights, counts and weather observations in the stated units.

How to use Scion Stick Bud Count Tool and understand its results

  1. Prepare vineyard measurements, dates or block records for the intended growing period. Keep weights, counts and weather observations in the stated units.
  2. Enter scionStickUsableLengthsCm, internodeSpacingsCm, cutEndBudExclusionDistancesCm, callerViableBudFractions using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read geometricBudPositionsByStick, expectedViableScionBudCount. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

Align nonnegative stick lengths, positive spacings, two nonnegative end exclusions per stick and viability fractions in [0,1]. Return zero positions for a negative usable span, otherwise include both endpoint convention and fractional expected viability.1

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.

positions = floor((length − end exclusions)/internode spacing)+1 when usable span ≥ 0

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Geometric positions do not establish actual bud locations, viability or graft grade.

Numbers and computed results must be finite; overflow produces an error. Matrices are limited to 128 rows and 128 entries per row; other numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Row Length Vine Count: Count endpoint-inclusive geometric vine positions for unequal measured row lengths, spacings and end exclusions; no area-density alias, field planting recommendation or rounding fractional plants. For a complementary task, use Graft Success Rate Percent: Audit multi-batch graft take→rooting→saleable nested pipeline and distinct attrition, not simple binary seedling survival; unequal batch sizes are pooled by attempted grafts and stage quality criteria are caller established.
