Internode Length Vigour Indicator

Audit measured adjacent node distances and fraction above caller internode threshold, not a fixed cultivar vigor score or original nodes inferred from cane length.

Description

Internodes are the intervals between adjacent stem nodes.

Internodes are the intervals between adjacent stem nodes. Measured node positions give interval lengths without assuming a uniform cane.

Audit measured adjacent node distances and fraction above caller internode threshold, not a fixed cultivar vigor score or original nodes inferred from cane length.

When to use Internode Length Vigour Indicator

Use this tool to audit measured adjacent node distances and fraction above caller internode threshold, not a fixed cultivar vigor score or original nodes inferred from cane length.

Prepare vineyard measurements, dates or block records for the intended growing period. Keep weights, counts and weather observations in the stated units.

How to use Internode Length Vigour Indicator and understand its results

  1. Prepare vineyard measurements, dates or block records for the intended growing period. Keep weights, counts and weather observations in the stated units.
  2. Enter measuredNodePositionsCm, callerLongInternodeThresholdCm using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read observedInternodeLengthsCm, meanObservedInternodeLengthCm, longInternodeFraction. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
measuredNodePositionsCmMeasured node positions cmlist of numberRequired
callerLongInternodeThresholdCmCaller long internode threshold cmnumberRequired

Use increasing node positions in centimeters and a nonnegative long-internode threshold. Return all differences, their mean and the fraction strictly above the threshold.1

Each sequence checked for increasing order must contain at least two strictly increasing values.

internode length[i] = node position[i+1] − node position[i]

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Length alone does not establish physiological vigor or infer missing original nodes.

Numbers and computed results must be finite; overflow produces an error. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Scion Stick Bud Count Tool: Screen usable scion bud positions under caller internode/endpoint geometry and independently measured viability; expected viable count is fractional, not observed buds or graft-grade assurance. For a complementary task, use Cane Weight Selection Threshold Checker: Compare measured dry cane mass per actual length against caller selection calibration; raw cane weight alone is length-confounded and this band does not establish viable/suitable fruiting wood.
