Guyot Cane Total Buds

Account measured multi-cane Guyot retained fruit buds and separate renewal-spur buds by vine; no conflation of renewal with crop buds or prediction of fruitfulness.

Description

Guyot vines retain fruit-cane buds and renewal-spur buds for different purposes.

Guyot vines retain fruit-cane buds and renewal-spur buds for different purposes. Keeping them separate prevents renewal inventory from being mistaken for crop buds.

Account measured multi-cane Guyot retained fruit buds and separate renewal-spur buds by vine; no conflation of renewal with crop buds or prediction of fruitfulness.

When to use Guyot Cane Total Buds

Use this tool to account measured multi-cane Guyot retained fruit buds and separate renewal-spur buds by vine; no conflation of renewal with crop buds or prediction of fruitfulness.

Prepare vineyard measurements, dates or block records for the intended growing period. Keep weights, counts and weather observations in the stated units.

How to use Guyot Cane Total Buds and understand its results

  1. Prepare vineyard measurements, dates or block records for the intended growing period. Keep weights, counts and weather observations in the stated units.
  2. Enter retainedFruitCaneBudCountsByVine, retainedRenewalSpurBudCountsByVine using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read fruitCaneBudTotalsByVine, wholeGuyotBudTotalsByVine, renewalBudShareOfTotal. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
retainedFruitCaneBudCountsByVineRetained fruit cane bud counts by vinelist of list of numberRequired
retainedRenewalSpurBudCountsByVineRetained renewal spur bud counts by vinelist of numberRequired

Align cane rows with renewal counts, all nonnegative integers. Sum each vine's fruit and whole-system buds, require positive overall buds and report renewal share of that total.1

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.

total buds/vine = sum fruit-cane buds + renewal-spur buds

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Retained buds do not predict fruitfulness or shoot emergence.

Numbers and computed results must be finite; overflow produces an error. Matrices are limited to 128 rows and 128 entries per row; other numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Buds Per Hectare Total: Expand measured retained fruit-bud loading through actual block vine inventories/areas and caller bud-burst fractions; distinguishes per-vine Guyot ledger from per-area expected shoots, not a density ideal. For a complementary task, use Spur Pruning Spur Count Per Vine: Invert caller shoot demand to whole spur counts using retained buds and explicit burst assumptions, retaining expected overage after rounding; not actual fruitful shoots or a pruning prescription.
