Buds Per Hectare Total

Expand measured retained fruit-bud loading through actual block vine inventories/areas and caller bud-burst fractions; distinguishes per-vine Guyot ledger from per-area expected shoots, not a density ideal.

Description

Retained fruit-bud totals and expected shoot totals have different denominators.

Retained fruit-bud totals and expected shoot totals have different denominators. Block area converts both into per-hectare quantities.

Expand measured retained fruit-bud loading through actual block vine inventories/areas and caller bud-burst fractions; distinguishes per-vine Guyot ledger from per-area expected shoots, not a density ideal.

When to use Buds Per Hectare Total

Use this tool to expand measured retained fruit-bud loading through actual block vine inventories/areas and caller bud-burst fractions; distinguishes per-vine Guyot ledger from per-area expected shoots, not a density ideal.

Prepare vineyard measurements, dates or block records for the intended growing period. Keep weights, counts and weather observations in the stated units.

How to use Buds Per Hectare Total and understand its results

  1. Prepare vineyard measurements, dates or block records for the intended growing period. Keep weights, counts and weather observations in the stated units.
  2. Enter representedVineCountsByBlock, retainedFruitBudsPerVineByBlock, blockAreasHa, callerBudBurstFractions using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read blockRetainedFruitBudsPerHa, totalRetainedFruitBuds, expectedBurstShootsPerHaByBlock. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
representedVineCountsByBlockRepresented vine counts by blocklist of numberRequired
retainedFruitBudsPerVineByBlockRetained fruit buds per vine by blocklist of numberRequired
blockAreasHaBlock areas halist of numberRequired
callerBudBurstFractionsCaller bud burst fractionslist of numberRequired

Align nonnegative integer vines and buds, positive hectares and burst fractions in [0,1]. Return block densities, safely countable total buds and expected shoot densities.1

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.

buds/ha = vine count × fruit buds/vine/area; expected shoots/ha = buds/ha × burst fraction

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

No ideal planting density or guaranteed bud burst is supplied.

Numbers and computed results must be finite; overflow produces an error. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Guyot Cane Total Buds: Account measured multi-cane Guyot retained fruit buds and separate renewal-spur buds by vine; no conflation of renewal with crop buds or prediction of fruitfulness. For a complementary task, use Shoot Density Per Meter Row: Normalize observed shoot inventories by actual row versus multiple-curtain exposure, retaining different denominators; no shoot density target or canopy quality inference.
