Erosion Contour Row Gradient Checker

Check observed absolute row gradient against a caller limit; no erosion or contour-design certification.

Description

Flag absolute row gradient above a caller-selected erosion-review limit.

Row gradient can be screened against a chosen review limit when assessing an erosion-related layout. This tool compares the magnitude of a measured rise-to-run percentage with the caller's threshold.

When to use this tool

Flag absolute row gradient above a caller-selected erosion-review limit. Use it when the input measurements and conventions below match the operation you need.

  • Prepare signedRiseM, horizontalRunM, callerMaxAbsolutePercent, respecting the measurement basis and boundaries below.
  • Compare the worked example with your intended operation before reusing its result.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter every field in the input table using the stated units and exact supported selector spelling where applicable.
  2. Run the tool. Correct input errors before interpreting an output.
  3. Read the result fields below; use accompanying flags and the stated sign, boundary or model convention when interpreting a number.

horizontalRunM must be positive and callerMaxAbsolutePercent nonnegative. The tool calculates 100 times signedRiseM divided by horizontalRunM and flags an absolute value strictly above the threshold.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
signedRiseMSigned rise m. Meters.Finite number
horizontalRunMHorizontal run m. Meters.Finite number; greater than zero
callerMaxAbsolutePercentCaller max absolute percent. Percentage units; 20 means 20%.Finite number; zero or greater
Output fieldInterpretation
resultObject containing the following named result fields.
result.callerReviewFlagCaller review flag flag under the exact conditions described above.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The threshold is supplied, not derived from a soil-erosion model. Rainfall, soil, ground cover, runoff pathways and structural suitability are not assessed.
  • Every declared field is required and unexpected fields are rejected. Numeric inputs must be finite; input errors are distinct from a valid false result or an explicitly qualified output.
  • Extremely large inputs and nonfinite or excessively large outputs are rejected. List positions reported by the tool use zero-based indices unless stated otherwise.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Compare the result with actual block measurements, soil or crop observations and the declared management basis. Use a site-specific model when effects omitted here materially affect the decision. Compare the scope of the nearby tools below before substituting one.
