Quick-Change Handoff
Budget a quick-change handoff with task overlap and required buffer.
Description
A quick change combines dresser tasks, possible overlap and a required buffer.
A quick change combines dresser tasks, possible overlap and a required buffer. Subtracting overlap estimates net duration but does not construct a dependency schedule.1
Budget a quick-change handoff with task overlap and required buffer.
When to use Quick-Change Handoff
Use this tool to budget a quick-change handoff with task overlap and required buffer.
Prepare production measurements or checklist records for one planning period. Confirm units, staffing assumptions and caller-selected criteria before running the calculation.
How to use Quick-Change Handoff and understand its results
- Prepare production measurements or checklist records for one planning period. Confirm units, staffing assumptions and caller-selected criteria before running the calculation.
- Enter availableChangeSeconds, dresserTaskSeconds, handoffOverlapSeconds, bufferSeconds using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read serialTaskSeconds, netChangeSeconds, timeMarginSeconds, feasible. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| availableChangeSeconds | Available quick-change time (s) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| dresserTaskSeconds | Dresser task times (s) | list of number | Required |
| handoffOverlapSeconds | Parallel handoff overlap (s) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| bufferSeconds | Required buffer (s) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
Enter nonnegative available, task, overlap and buffer seconds. Sum tasks, subtract overlap with a zero floor and compare the buffered duration with available time. Return serial/net duration, signed margin and an inclusive feasible flag. An empty task list is allowed.
serial=ΣtaskSeconds; net=max(0,serial−overlap); margin=available−net−buffer Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| serialTaskSeconds | Serial task time (s) | number; minimum: 0 |
| netChangeSeconds | Net quick-change time (s) | number; minimum: 0 |
| timeMarginSeconds | Time margin (s) | number |
| feasible | Quick change is feasible | boolean |

} Limitations and assumptions
The tool trusts the supplied overlap even if it exceeds serial time. Task dependencies, staff conflicts and performer movement are not modeled.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Costume-Plot Coverage: Audit costume-plot character and scene coverage. For a complementary task, use Private Scene Throughput: Calculate private-scene capacity from rooms, operating time, and turnover.
