Mold Life Remaining

Track remaining mold life and defect-rate replacement status.

Description

A mold can reach its rated cast count or exceed a chosen defect-rate criterion.

A mold can reach its rated cast count or exceed a chosen defect-rate criterion. Tracking those triggers separately explains why replacement is due.1

Track remaining mold life and defect-rate replacement status.

When to use Mold Life Remaining

Use this tool to track remaining mold life and defect-rate replacement status.

Prepare production measurements or checklist records for one planning period. Confirm units, staffing assumptions and caller-selected criteria before running the calculation.

How to use Mold Life Remaining and understand its results

  1. Prepare production measurements or checklist records for one planning period. Confirm units, staffing assumptions and caller-selected criteria before running the calculation.
  2. Enter ratedCastCount, completedCastCount, observedDefectRatePercent, maximumDefectRatePercent using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read ratedCastsRemaining, lifeUsedPercent, defectRateAcceptable, replacementDue. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
ratedCastCountRated mold castsinteger; minimum: 0Required
completedCastCountCompleted castsinteger; minimum: 0Required
observedDefectRatePercentObserved defect rate (%)number; minimum: 0Required
maximumDefectRatePercentMaximum defect rate (%)number; minimum: 0Required

Enter positive integer rated casts, nonnegative completed casts not above rating and nonnegative defect percentages. Return remaining casts, life used, inclusive defect acceptability and replacement flag.

remaining=rated−completed; replacementDue=(remaining=0) OR (observedDefectRate>maximum)

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Percentages are not independently capped at 100. Ratings and defect measurements are supplied; wear progression, material condition and individual cast defects are not predicted.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Lamp Inventory Par: Calculate a lamp par level and reorder quantity from use, lead time, and safety stock. For a complementary task, use Rigging Inspection Due: Calculate the next rigging inspection date from a supplied interval.
