Co-Production Cost Allocation
Allocate shared co-production costs by caller-supplied partner weights.
Description
Co-production partners can share a cost in proportion to agreed weights.
Co-production partners can share a cost in proportion to agreed weights. Normalizing weights allows relative shares that do not already sum to one.1
Allocate shared co-production costs by caller-supplied partner weights.
When to use Co-Production Cost Allocation
Use this tool to allocate shared co-production costs by caller-supplied partner weights.
Prepare production measurements or checklist records for one planning period. Confirm units, staffing assumptions and caller-selected criteria before running the calculation.
How to use Co-Production Cost Allocation and understand its results
- Prepare production measurements or checklist records for one planning period. Confirm units, staffing assumptions and caller-selected criteria before running the calculation.
- Enter sharedCost, partnerWeights using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read allocatedCosts, weightTotal, allocationTotal. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| sharedCost | Shared production cost | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| partnerWeights | Partner allocation weights | list of number | Required |
Enter nonnegative shared cost and a nonempty nonnegative weight list with positive total. Return ordered allocations, weight total and allocation sum. Zero weights receive zero; fractional currency values are retained.
allocation_i=sharedCost×weight_i/Σweights Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| allocatedCosts | Allocated partner costs | list of number |
| weightTotal | Total allocation weight | number; minimum: 0 |
| allocationTotal | Allocated cost total | number; minimum: 0 |

No contract interpretation or cent rounding is applied. Different currencies, tax consequences and expenses allocated outside the shared pool require separate handling.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Producer Recoup Waterfall: Apply a simple producer recoupment waterfall to supplied revenue and costs. For a complementary task, use Partnership Allocation Check: Check whether partner allocations reconcile to the partnership total.
