Percentile Position Tie Label Tool

Describe lower, upper and midrank percentile positions for an explicitly supplied tie block, with strict-less and equal counts.

Loading tool…

Description

Return 100 × less/n, 100 × (less+equal)/n, and 100 × (less+equal/2)/n.

A statistic summarizes data under chosen conventions for missing values, ties, spread, and denominators. A component calculation uses the supplied values; it does not check whether the data collection or statistical model is appropriate.

Return 100 × less/n, 100 × (less+equal)/n, and 100 × (less+equal/2)/n.

When to use this tool

Use Percentile Position Tie Label when you need one stated statistical component with explicit handling of boundary cases.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter lessCount, equalCount, sampleSize. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read lowerPercentile, upperPercentile, midrankPercentile. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative lessCount and equalCount whose sum fits positive sampleSize. Return 100 × less/n, 100 × (less+equal)/n, and 100 × (less+equal/2)/n.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Outputs are percent ranks under three tie conventions, not a fitted quantile or a confidence interval; counts must describe the same comparison value.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the data distribution and the full estimation method before drawing a statistical conclusion.
