Confidence Interval Asymmetric Margin Tool

Split a supplied interval around an estimate into separate lower and upper margins; no confidence level is inferred.

Description

Return estimate minus lowerBound and upperBound minus estimate separately.

A statistic summarizes data under chosen conventions for missing values, ties, spread, and denominators. A component calculation uses the supplied values; it does not check whether the data collection or statistical model is appropriate.

Return estimate minus lowerBound and upperBound minus estimate separately.

When to use this tool

Use Confidence Interval Asymmetric Margin when you need one stated statistical component with explicit handling of boundary cases.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter estimate, lowerBound, upperBound. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read lowerMargin, upperMargin. Use the output convention below.

Require lowerBound ≤ estimate ≤ upperBound. Return estimate minus lowerBound and upperBound minus estimate separately.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This decomposes a supplied interval without estimating uncertainty, coverage probability, or a confidence level.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
