Description

Count tokens inside a supplied half-open unintelligible span.

Speech records use different observational units: words, morphemes, tokens, time spans, frequency and symbol-code versions. A duration share differs from a count-based speech measure, and a transcription remains a supplied annotation. Recorded practice completion and communication preferences need their original assessment and consent context before clinical interpretation.

Count tokens inside a supplied half-open unintelligible span.

When to use this tool

Use Speech Sample Unintelligible Span Length when you already have startTokenIndex, endTokenIndexExclusive and need to count tokens inside a supplied half-open unintelligible span.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter startTokenIndex, endTokenIndexExclusive. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read tokenCount. Use the output convention below.

Require safe whole start>=0 and endExclusive>=start; return end-start.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
startTokenIndexStart Token IndexRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
endTokenIndexExclusiveExcluded endpoint in the same supplied token-index convention.Required. Safe integer.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Indices describe a supplied tokenization, not characters or elapsed speech; no unintelligible span is detected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the original audio, transcription and annotation manual when counts or intervals need verification. Apply a complete instrument's stated scoring method for an assessment; retain source-defined word, morpheme, time and symbol conventions throughout.
