Shell Weight Percent SR
Compare matched shell/whole mass ratios on as-received and moisture-corrected dry bases, preserving pooled mass weighting instead of averaging individual percentages.
Description
Cocoon shell ratio compares shell mass with whole-cocoon mass.
Cocoon shell ratio compares shell mass with whole-cocoon mass. Moisture differences make as-received and dry-basis ratios distinct.1
Compare matched shell/whole mass ratios on as-received and moisture-corrected dry bases, preserving pooled mass weighting instead of averaging individual percentages.
When to use Shell Weight Percent SR
Use this tool to compare matched shell/whole mass ratios on as-received and moisture-corrected dry bases, preserving pooled mass weighting instead of averaging individual percentages.
Prepare cocoon, larval, leaf or reeling measurements on a consistent batch and moisture basis. Use the declared mass, length and time units.
How to use Shell Weight Percent SR and understand its results
- Prepare cocoon, larval, leaf or reeling measurements on a consistent batch and moisture basis. Use the declared mass, length and time units.
- Enter wholeCocoonMassesGrams, shellMassesGrams, wholeMoistureFractions, shellMoistureFractions using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read asReceivedShellPercents, pooledAsReceivedShellPercent, pooledDryBasisShellPercent. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| wholeCocoonMassesGrams | Whole cocoon masses grams | list of number | Required |
| shellMassesGrams | Shell masses grams | list of number | Required |
| wholeMoistureFractions | Whole moisture fractions | list of number | Required |
| shellMoistureFractions | Shell moisture fractions | list of number | Required |
Align positive whole masses, nonnegative shells and wet-basis moisture fractions in [0,1]. Require shells no greater than whole on both bases and positive pooled dry whole mass. Return local received ratios and pooled received/dry ratios.2
Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.
pooled shell percent = 100 × total shell mass/total whole mass on the stated basis Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| asReceivedShellPercents | As received shell percents | list of number |
| pooledAsReceivedShellPercent | Pooled as received shell percent | number |
| pooledDryBasisShellPercent | Pooled dry basis shell percent | number |

} Limitations and assumptions
Pooled ratios are mass-weighted; assays and sample representativeness remain external.
Numbers and computed results must be finite; overflow produces an error. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Single Cocoon Weight MG: Calculate tare-corrected batch and pooled single-cocoon mg means with count weighting; no nominal breed cocoon mass table. For a complementary task, use Raw Silk Recovery Percent: Balance raw-silk recovery on wet/dry bases and retained dry byproducts; unrecovered includes non-silk material and is not automatically pure-silk loss.
