Raw Silk Recovery Percent

Balance raw-silk recovery on wet/dry bases and retained dry byproducts; unrecovered includes non-silk material and is not automatically pure-silk loss.

Description

Raw-silk recovery differs on wet and dry mass bases.

Raw-silk recovery differs on wet and dry mass bases. Unrecovered dry input also includes non-silk cocoon material.

Balance raw-silk recovery on wet/dry bases and retained dry byproducts; unrecovered includes non-silk material and is not automatically pure-silk loss.

When to use Raw Silk Recovery Percent

Use this tool to balance raw-silk recovery on wet/dry bases and retained dry byproducts; unrecovered includes non-silk material and is not automatically pure-silk loss.

Prepare cocoon, larval, leaf or reeling measurements on a consistent batch and moisture basis. Use the declared mass, length and time units.

How to use Raw Silk Recovery Percent and understand its results

  1. Prepare cocoon, larval, leaf or reeling measurements on a consistent batch and moisture basis. Use the declared mass, length and time units.
  2. Enter cocoonInputKg, cocoonInputMoistureFraction, rawSilkOutputKg, rawSilkMoistureFraction, byproductDryMassKg using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read asReceivedRawSilkRecoveryPercent, dryBasisRawSilkRecoveryPercent, unrecoveredDryInputKg. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

byproductDryMassKgByproduct dry mass kgnumberRequired

Use positive cocoon input, nonnegative silk and byproducts and moisture fractions in [0,1]. Require positive dry input and nonnegative unclosed dry remainder. Return received recovery, dry recovery and unrecovered kg.1

dry recovery = 100 × dry silk/dry input; unrecovered = dry input − dry silk − byproducts

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Unrecovered material is not automatically pure-silk loss; assays and balance coverage matter.

Numbers and computed results must be finite; overflow produces an error. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Shell Weight Percent SR: Compare matched shell/whole mass ratios on as-received and moisture-corrected dry bases, preserving pooled mass weighting instead of averaging individual percentages. For a complementary task, use Degumming Weight Loss Percent: Audit degumming dry-matter loss and independently recovered bath-solids closure while retaining signed wet-mass and balance contrasts; loss is not automatically pure sericin removal.
