Reeling Ends Per Operator

Screen reeling end/operator workload using end-specific break/handling demand and operator service availability; mean end allocation alone does not imply an acceptable queue or ergonomic workload.

Description

Each reeling end creates service demand when breaks require handling.

Each reeling end creates service demand when breaks require handling. Ends per operator alone does not reveal the time burden.

Screen reeling end/operator workload using end-specific break/handling demand and operator service availability; mean end allocation alone does not imply an acceptable queue or ergonomic workload.

When to use Reeling Ends Per Operator

Use this tool to screen reeling end/operator workload using end-specific break/handling demand and operator service availability; mean end allocation alone does not imply an acceptable queue or ergonomic workload.

Prepare cocoon, larval, leaf or reeling measurements on a consistent batch and moisture basis. Use the declared mass, length and time units.

How to use Reeling Ends Per Operator and understand its results

  1. Prepare cocoon, larval, leaf or reeling measurements on a consistent batch and moisture basis. Use the declared mass, length and time units.
  2. Enter endBreaksPerHour, handlingSecondsPerBreak, operatorCount, availableServiceFraction using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read totalServiceDemandSecondsPerHour, meanEndsPerOperator, serviceUtilizationFraction, callerCapacityMarginSecondsPerHour. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
endBreaksPerHourEnd breaks per hourlist of numberRequired
handlingSecondsPerBreakHandling seconds per breaklist of numberRequired
operatorCountOperator countintegerRequired
availableServiceFractionAvailable service fractionnumberRequired

Align nonnegative break rates and handling times with positive integer operators and available-service fraction in (0,1]. Return demand, mean ends/operator, utilization and signed capacity margin.1

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.

utilization = Σ breaks/hour × seconds/break /(operators × 3600 × available fraction)

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Average capacity does not model queues, arrival bursts or ergonomic suitability.

Numbers and computed results must be finite; overflow produces an error. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Automatic Reeling Capacity KGHR: Calculate heterogeneous automatic reeling-bank mass throughput from end count, speed, denier, uptime and saleability; not a nominal machine capacity reference. For a complementary task, use Reeling Labor Cost Per KG Silk: Allocate role-specific productive and additional paid downtime labor plus employer load to actual saleable silk kg; supplied productive hours must exclude the separate downtime.
