Reelability Percent

Report distinct length-weighted continuous reelability and count-based caller classifications; partial reeling is allowed even for a cocoon classified unreelable by the caller method.

Description

Continuous reelability can be measured by recovered filament length or by cocoon classifications.

Continuous reelability can be measured by recovered filament length or by cocoon classifications. These use different denominators.

Report distinct length-weighted continuous reelability and count-based caller classifications; partial reeling is allowed even for a cocoon classified unreelable by the caller method.

When to use Reelability Percent

Use this tool to report distinct length-weighted continuous reelability and count-based caller classifications; partial reeling is allowed even for a cocoon classified unreelable by the caller method.

Prepare cocoon, larval, leaf or reeling measurements on a consistent batch and moisture basis. Use the declared mass, length and time units.

How to use Reelability Percent and understand its results

  1. Prepare cocoon, larval, leaf or reeling measurements on a consistent batch and moisture basis. Use the declared mass, length and time units.
  2. Enter cocoonFilamentLengthsM, continuouslyReeledLengthsM, unreelableCocoonFlags using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read lengthWeightedReelabilityPercent, cocoonCountReelabilityPercent. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
cocoonFilamentLengthsMCocoon filament lengths mlist of numberRequired
continuouslyReeledLengthsMContinuously reeled lengths mlist of numberRequired
unreelableCocoonFlagsUnreelable cocoon flagslist of numberRequired

Align positive available lengths, nonnegative reeled lengths no greater than available, and binary unreelable flags. Return length-weighted percentage and 100 times one minus mean unreelable flag; partial recovery may coexist with an unreelable classification.1

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.

length percent = 100 × Σ continuously reeled length/Σ available filament length

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Classification rules are supplied and need not match the length-based measure.

Numbers and computed results must be finite; overflow produces an error. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Filament Length Single Cocoon Meters: Estimate single-cocoon reeled filament lengths from turns/circumference with per-sample measured slip and unrecorded leader correction; distinct from mass/denier linear density. For a complementary task, use Raw Silk Recovery Percent: Balance raw-silk recovery on wet/dry bases and retained dry byproducts; unrecovered includes non-silk material and is not automatically pure-silk loss.
