Eggs Per Moth Count Average

Summarize measured individual silkmoth egg counts including sample variability and caller low-fecundity count; unlike cohort egg-production forecasts, this audits observed mothers.

Description

Individual moth egg counts measure observed fecundity.

Individual moth egg counts measure observed fecundity. Between-mother variability differs from an assumed cohort production rate.

Summarize measured individual silkmoth egg counts including sample variability and caller low-fecundity count; unlike cohort egg-production forecasts, this audits observed mothers.

When to use Eggs Per Moth Count Average

Use this tool to summarize measured individual silkmoth egg counts including sample variability and caller low-fecundity count; unlike cohort egg-production forecasts, this audits observed mothers.

Prepare cocoon, larval, leaf or reeling measurements on a consistent batch and moisture basis. Use the declared mass, length and time units.

How to use Eggs Per Moth Count Average and understand its results

  1. Prepare cocoon, larval, leaf or reeling measurements on a consistent batch and moisture basis. Use the declared mass, length and time units.
  2. Enter eggCountsPerMother, callerLowFecundityCutoff using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read meanEggsPerMother, sampleStandardDeviation, lowFecundityMotherCount. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

eggCountsPerMotherEgg counts per motherlist of numberRequired
callerLowFecundityCutoffCaller low fecundity cutoffintegerRequired

Supply at least two nonnegative integer egg counts and a nonnegative integer low-fecundity cutoff. Return mean, sample standard deviation and mothers strictly below the cutoff.1

Sample variance requires at least two samples and uses the n−1 denominator.

mean = Σ eggs/mothers; sample SD uses n−1 denominator

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Observed mothers do not guarantee a future cohort's production or hatchability.

Numbers and computed results must be finite; overflow produces an error. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Oviposition First 24H Percent: Calculate observed first-24-hour oviposition share from nonoverlapping bins beginning at laying onset with an exact 24-hour boundary; later unobserved laying remains outside the denominator. For a complementary task, use Eggs Per Gram Silkworm Seed: Estimate a seed-lot egg count using pooled tare-corrected count/mass samples; no fixed eggs-per-gram reference or hatchability assumption.
