Description
Normalize a response only when its declared unit matches the supplied anchors.
Research records distinguish observed, missing, inapplicable, and unverified entries. Those categories affect which denominator or weight a summary uses. A completeness or timing calculation describes the supplied records without assigning a clinical score or interpreting a condition.
Normalize a response only when its declared unit matches the supplied anchors.
When to use this tool
Use it for rheumatology response anchor unit guard when the required inputs and conventions are already available.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter response, responseUnit, lowerAnchor, upperAnchor, anchorUnit. Use the stated units and boundary conventions.
- Run the calculation. Correct any input error before interpreting a result.
- Read insideAnchors, normalized. Inspect any known, defined, inclusion, or boundary flags before interpreting numeric values.
Require an exact nonempty responseUnit/anchorUnit match and upperAnchor above lowerAnchor. Return inclusive anchor membership and normalized response (response-lowerAnchor)/(upperAnchor-lowerAnchor).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |

| response | Response | Required. Finite number. |
| responseUnit | Response Unit | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| lowerAnchor | Lower Anchor | Required. Finite number. |
| upperAnchor | Upper Anchor | Required. Finite number. |

| insideAnchors | Inside Anchors | Required. Boolean. |
| normalized | Unclamped dimensionless position relative to the supplied anchors. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Responses outside the anchors are retained with values below zero or above one; there is no clamping or unit conversion. Matching labels do not validate a clinical scale.
- The field tables describe structural bounds; the mechanics also state cross-field requirements. Malformed input shapes, disallowed keys, and invalid domains cause input errors. Results must remain finite and within the declared output contract. A successful false flag or zero placeholder is distinct from an error.
- Numeric arithmetic uses binary floating point. Exact comparisons have no hidden tolerance or decimal rounding; negative zero is exported as zero. Decimal-text integer operations retain the exactness specifically stated above.
Alternative or Complementary methods
For rheumatology response anchor unit guard, check the source records and the supplied rule before comparing the result with another method. Use an appropriately validated measurement or analysis method for clinical interpretation.
