Joint Swollen Tender Code

Encode explicit joint assessment, swelling, and tenderness flags without examining or diagnosing a joint.

Description

Distinguish joint swelling/tenderness records from an unassessed joint.

Rheumatology records distinguish observed findings, unassessed joints, anatomical chart labels and instrument/source versions. A not-assessed state differs from an assessed negative finding, while a censored laboratory value differs from an exact measurement. Durations and labels retain their source conventions and do not themselves constitute a diagnosis or disease-activity score.

Distinguish joint swelling/tenderness records from an unassessed joint.

When to use this tool

Use Joint Swollen Tender Code when you already have jointId, assessed, swollenRecorded, tenderRecorded and need to distinguish joint swelling/tenderness records from an unassessed joint.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter jointId, assessed, swollenRecorded, tenderRecorded. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read status. Use the output convention below.

Require jointId nonempty and reject either positive finding when assessed=false. Return not-assessed, swollen-and-tender, swollen-only, tender-only or neither from the flags.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Findings are caller records; the tool performs no examination, disease scoring, diagnosis or treatment selection.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the original chart, instrument version and laboratory reporting convention for substantive interpretation. Preserve unassessed findings and censoring separately from recorded negatives and exact values; a local label or duration conversion does not assemble a disease-activity assessment.
