Description

Return one minus loss for retainedFraction and multiply input by it for outputAmount.

A proportion is a ratio with a defined numerator and denominator. Fractions, percentages, and per-mille values use different scales, while a signed deviation also depends on which value is treated as the reference.

Return one minus loss for retainedFraction and multiply input by it for outputAmount.

When to use this tool

Use Serial Retention Single Stage Factor when you need a clearly defined ratio, retained share, or signed proportional component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter lossFraction, inputAmount. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read retainedFraction, outputAmount. Use the output convention below.

Require lossFraction in [0, 1] and nonnegative inputAmount. Return one minus loss for retainedFraction and multiply input by it for outputAmount.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This models one supplied loss stage without estimating recovery, uncertainty, or multiple-stage retention.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Write out the numerator, denominator, and reporting scale when comparing this result with another indicator.
