Proportional Offset From Baseline Tool

Return both a signed proportional offset and the resulting baseline-plus-offset value.

Loading tool…

Description

Multiply baseline by relativeOffset for offset and by 1 + relativeOffset for adjusted.

A proportion is a ratio with a defined numerator and denominator. Fractions, percentages, and per-mille values use different scales, while a signed deviation also depends on which value is treated as the reference.

Multiply baseline by relativeOffset for offset and by 1 + relativeOffset for adjusted.

When to use this tool

Use Proportional Offset From Baseline when you need a clearly defined ratio, retained share, or signed proportional component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter baseline, relativeOffset. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read offset, adjusted. Use the output convention below.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The offset is a signed fraction and no domain restriction prevents negative values; percent inputs must be converted before use.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Write out the numerator, denominator, and reporting scale when comparing this result with another indicator.
